Old Basing house bridge

This bridge was a sub-contract job for the Green Oak Carpentry Company based in Hampshire.

For all work in that surrounding area please contact GOCC.

Built over the castle moat it links the castle to the new house. The zig-zag form of the bridge is a reference to a defensive device in common use at the time to force aggressors to present the best possible target to the defenders. Both the castle and the original house were demolished by parliamentary troops during the civil war in what was one of the last great battles of the campaign.
